Interchange

Vacation house for Peter Garrett is designed to be a refreshing retreat into the secluded and untouched scrub land of Bruny Island, Tasmania. Peter’s passionate views on preserving the natural world was an obvious inspiration for the forms and geometry of the building. Rock formations and layering, tree rings and delineations, earth contours and corrugations were all drawn upon and used to inspire the shape and planning of the dwelling.

The house is a place where peter can quietly reflect away from his demanding life of politics as well as to spend time with his wife and three young children. The house has a private study separated from the rest of the house where Peter can work if required, this doubles as a listening room and music library accommodating for Peter’s second love of music.
